16 Acres of Flowers Are Coming to Young Farms
2027
This fall, 2026, something new is taking root at Young Farms.
We are preparing to plant 16 acres of flowering pollinator habitat through Project Apis m.'s Seeds for Bees® program, transforming our pasture into a diverse landscape of flowers, legumes, grasses, and other beneficial plants. By spring, we hope to see acres of color stretching across the farm. But this field is being planted for much more than the view.
The planting is part of our continuing effort to improve the land through agriculture. The field will provide forage and habitat for bees and other pollinating and beneficial insects while keeping living roots in the soil, building organic matter, cycling nutrients, protecting the soil surface, and helping water move into the ground.
And this time, we want to share the experience with our community.
Beginning with planting this fall and continuing through bloom into the summer, Young Farms plans to open the farm for select educational and community events.
· Learn how a 16-acre pollinator field is planted and established
· Explore pollinators and their role in California agriculture
· See soil health and water conservation practices at work in the field
· Walk among acres of seasonal native flowers
· Enjoy opportunities for farm and flower photography
· Cut flowers and build your own farm-grown bouquet
· Take part in seasonal workshops, demonstrations, and hands-on farm experiences
Workshops may include:
Seeding Success Workshops
Learn how to prepare, plant, and establish flowers and veggies from seed.
Pollinator & Beneficial Insects
Get a closer look at the bees, butterflies, and beneficial insects that use the field and learn why they matter to agriculture.
Build-a-Bouquet Workshops
Walk the field, learn how and when to cut flowers, and create a bouquet to take home.
Paint in the Pasture
Spend an afternoon painting among the flowers with the farm and pollinator field as the backdrop.
Soil Health in the Field
Dig below the flowers to explore roots, soil structure, organic matter, infiltration, and the biology that keeps agricultural soils functioning.
Water & Groundwater Recharge
See how Young Farms manages water, improves infiltration, and incorporates groundwater recharge into the farm.
Cover Crops & Regenerative Agriculture
Learn how flowering covers, legumes, grasses, livestock, and reduced soil disturbance can work together on a working farm.
Growing Your Own Pollinator Garden
Learn how to establish a smaller version at home, from preparing the ground and choosing seed to irrigation and long-term maintenance.
Photography
Scheduled opportunities for families and photographers to enjoy and photograph the field capturing unique blooms and diverse insects.
We want this field to be a place where people can enjoy the beauty of agriculture while also seeing what is happening underneath their feet.
Every flower begins with a seed. Every season of living roots adds something back to the soil. Every rainfall or irrigation event is an opportunity to capture water rather than lose it. And every acre devoted to flowering habitat provides another food source for the pollinators that California agriculture depends on.
For Young Farms, the project is another step in a much larger effort to care for a piece of agricultural land that has been farmed for generations while preparing it for the generations that come next.
🌱 Planting begins this Fall, Oct 2026
🌼 First major bloom expected March 2027, with species varieties blooming through till Fall.
Follow along as we prepare the ground, plant the seed, watch the field emerge, and eventually open the gates for everyone to experience it.
